A new era is on the horizon for Doja Cat, and if her look at the 2025 Outside Lands music festival is any indication, she may be taking us back to the '80s.

Doja threw it back to the decade of glitz, glamour, and Aqua Net with her performance look, which was dripping in the maximalism and flash of the era. Her long, wavy platinum blonde wig, styled by hairstylist JStayReady, was teased all over for tons of superstar volume. A small portion of her hair was chopped into shorter layers and pinned for extra oomph, creating a mullet-esque silhouette that flowed all the way down her back to brush the waistband of her zebra-print pants. And in true ‘80s fashion, Doja’s bangs were also teased into a towering fringe that brushed her face as she sang. You could easily see her onstage with Vanity 6 or fronting a hair metal band with this sky-high hair and that animal-print crop top and leggings ensemble. Are we sure she didn't time travel out of 1986?

Makeup artist Ivan Núñez kept the ‘80s vibes going with Doja’s glam, sculpting her lids with soft shadows and defining them with a sharp cat-eye liner, then brushing a hot, magenta-pink blush across her cheeks and up towards her temples. Her bright, cherry red lips perfectly matched her square-shaped scarlet manicure.

Doja recently told V Magazine that her forthcoming album, Vie, was inspired by the liminal spaces and nostalgic feelings of the ‘80s, though it will sound more synth-pop than Lita Ford-style hair metal. “I wanted to play with that nostalgia by using these Lo-Fi sounds and samples and things that reminded you of something from your childhood, but it wasn’t on the nose ‘80s," she said. She also channeled an ’80s aesthetic when teasing “Jealous Type,” the first single from Vie, complete with frosty blue eye shadow and mall bangs. Looks like it's time to invest in a teasing comb, some hot rollers, and a new extra-hold hairspray!

The best BHA toners have officially redeemed toner’s reputation. Once known for being stingy and skippable, today’s formulas are hardworking must-haves that exfoliate, decongest pores, and smooth skin, without stripping it dry. BHA (a.k.a. beta hydroxy acid—most commonly in the form of salicylic acid) is oil-soluble, meaning it can dive deep into pores to clear out gunk and excess oil. That makes it especially helpful for breakout-prone or oily skin types, but even dry or sensitive skin can benefit with the right formula.

    Our Top BHA Toners

    • Best Overall: COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid Treatment, $25

Over time, these toners can help reduce blackheads, minimize the look of pores, and improve overall tone and texture. Some even go the extra mile with soothing or hydrating ingredients, proving that toners aren’t just a throwaway step anymore—they’re an essential part of your skin-care routine.

Why it's worth it: If you’re chasing that glass skin glow (and who isn’t?), COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid Treatment is the one to beat. This K-beauty classic is our best overall pick because it does everything you can ask for in a toner: It exfoliates, clears pores, smooths texture, and calms skin. It uses a gentle duo of BHAS with niacinamide (without a harsh sting) to keep breakouts under control and skin looking radiant and healthy. Even if you’re not following a whole 10-step routine, this toner works hard to brighten dullness, balance oil, and prep your skin to soak in whatever comes next.

“This COSRX toner, much like their snail mucin essence, is what I like to call an oldie-but-a-goodie. It’s been around since I got into K-beauty over nine years ago, and whenever my blackheads are looking extra prominent, I reach for this trusty toner and spend some extra time post-double-cleanse to work it into my T-zone and on/around my nose (the biggest culprit!). I switch up the a.m. vs. p.m. application on the days I use a retinol serum at night, so COSRX goes on in the morning after splashing my face with water. I’ve noticed that my nose blackheads are less prominent and, well, dark, and some discoloration from self-inflicted picking (I know, I know!) has faded, which is an unexpected but welcome win!” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Sarah has combination skin and her biggest concerns are blackheads and excess oil in her T-zone. She’s been using the COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid every day (either morning or night, but not both) for three weeks.

Why it's worth it: Paula’s Choice built its reputation on no-BS, research-backed formulas, and the 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant is arguably the brand’s most-loved product. The viral toner uses salicylic acid to dive deep into pores, dissolving excess oil and dead skin buildup that can lead to breakouts. “It’s well tolerated by nearly all skin types, easily incorporated into a routine, and quite effective,” says Geeta Yadav, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Facet Dermatology based in Toronto, Canada; it’s one of the few viral products that she actually recommends in her practice. It also contains green tea, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that helps calm the redness and irritation often seen in hormonal or inflammatory acne. For those with sensitive or reactive skin, this lightweight mist keeps things simple with just nine ingredients.

"I haven't used toner in ages, but when faced with pretty rough hormonal acne on my chin and jaw, I reached for this. I alternated it at night with Shani Darden Rescue Serum With 10% Azelaic Complex right after cleansing, and just smoothed it into my skin; it absorbed quickly without any need for a cotton pad. I've found that this seems to be my magic combo for controlling breakouts. And when the occasional cystic zit did pop up, it didn't get as red or as big as it typically might have. I'm happy to report that it lives up to the hype." —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

Pai has combination skin and her biggest concerns are hormonal acne and hyperpigmentation. She’s been using the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant once a day for three weeks.

As with many K-beauty products that prioritize calming care, these pre-soaked pads are all about getting results without irritation. You have salicylic acid to unclog pores, a gentle dose of retinol to smooth texture, and soothing ingredients like cica and green tea ceramide from Korea’s Jeju Island, known for its mineral-rich soils. “These toner pads are not only convenient, but they’re always popular because they say it gives people such a clean-skin feel,” says Heather Woolery-Lloyd, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Miami. Why it's worth it: SkinCeuticals LHA Toner is an exfoliating toner that means business. “This formula combines two forms of salicylic acid—standard and capryloyl salicylic acid, a gentler version—with glycolic acid at a low pH for potent exfoliation both at the skin’s surface and within the pore,” says Yadav. “That makes it effective at addressing all forms of congestion, including whiteheads, blackheads, and deeper blemishes.” The glycolic acid also helps fade post-acne discoloration over time. Because of its low pH and formulation, it’s best suited for those who aren’t dry or sensitive.

    Editor's tip

    AccordionItemContainerButtonLargeChevron

Don’t be thrown off by the alcohol-like scent: SkinCeuticals LHA Toner contains denatured alcohol to help its exfoliating acids (salicylic and glycolic) penetrate more effectively. While the scent is a little astringent, the formula dries down quickly and doesn’t leave behind any greasy or sticky residue.

Why it's worth it: Next time you’re at the drugstore, do yourself a favor and grab La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Clarifying Solution, particularly if excess oil and breakouts are your main skin concerns. “This product is great for acne-prone skin, and I often recommend it with the Effaclar Purifying Foam Gel Cleanser, which also contains purifying properties,” says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. Along with exfoliating acids, it’s made with La Roche-Posay’s signature thermal spring water. “Thermal spring water contains minerals, trace elements, and a high concentration of selenium. These are prebiotics that are helpful for the skin’s microbiome,” she says. (Prebiotics, for the uninitiated, are materials that nourish the beneficial bacteria on your skin.) Each swipe gets you closer to more balanced skin.

Why it's worth it: Finding a liquid exfoliant that unclogs pores and doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or flaky is no small feat, but this Best of Beauty winner pulls it off. “Alpyn Beauty’s 2% BHA Pore Perfecting Liquid Exfoliator is an excellent choice for dry skin due to the inclusion of ingredients like glycerin, aloe, squalane, and jojoba, all of which hydrate and nourish without congesting pores,” says Dr. Yadav. Tremella mushroom (a humectant even more powerful than hyaluronic acid) keeps moisture levels up, while vitamin C helps brighten and fade post-acne discoloration. Dr. Yadav also points to calming ingredients like borage and tea tree oil, plus gentle astringents like tea tree and witch hazel, making it ideal for anyone dealing with dryness, dullness, large pores, or stubborn breakouts.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is it okay to use a BHA toner every day?

BHA usage depends on your skin type. “Yes, it is okay to use a BHA daily for people with normal to oily skin,” says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. “People with dry skin may need to decrease the frequency of use.” Because BHAs like salicylic acid help unclog pores and reduce excess oil, they’re often well tolerated by acne-prone skin types. That said, if you’re new to chemical exfoliants or have sensitive skin, it’s smart to start slow and build up to daily use. And don’t forget sunscreen, as BHAs can make your skin more sun-sensitive.

Which ingredients shouldn’t be combined with BHA?

While BHA can be paired with many ingredients, certain combinations may be too harsh. “People with dehydrated or sensitive skin may experience excessive dryness if they combine a salicylic acid toner with other drying or exfoliating ingredients, such as other acids, retinol, or benzoyl peroxide,” says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. That said, “for people with normal to oily skin, these combinations of ingredients are very common.” Another combo to be cautious with is vitamin C and acids like BHA, since “vitamin C stability is pH-dependent,” she adds. To minimize irritation, consider alternating active ingredients or using them at different times of day.

Is there an ideal percentage of BHA?

There’s no one-size-fits-all ideal percentage of BHA—it depends on your skin type and what you’re using it for. “The concentration that is typically used for acne is 2%,” says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. “For general use, concentrations range from 0.5–2%.” If you have sensitive skin, she notes that “lower concentrations may be better,” since tolerability can vary based on strength. “It really depends on the formula, but theoretically, the higher the percentage, the greater the exfoliating effects,” she adds.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best toners for sensitive skin, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Founder Mario Dedivanovic recommends using just one pump, applying it where you need the most coverage, and building from there. That’s easy to do thanks to skin-friendly ingredients like polyglyceryl-6 polyricinoleate (an ester that gives it a silky, glowy—not greasy—finish), plus hydrating staples like glycerin, grapeseed oil, and sunflower oil to help lock in moisture.

Even though it leaves a slightly dewy finish, our testers with oily skin found it held up beautifully throughout the day without turning shiny. Want something sheerer? Mix a pump with your favorite moisturizer and pat it on with your fingers for a more natural, skin-tint effect.

Why it's worth it: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation is one of Mehta's top picks for mature skin because "The formula is made of 40% water, leaving the skin hydrated and plump, while the radiant finish helps to create a smooth, glowy, seamless, and skin-like blend," she says. “This foundation feels like a lightweight serum but has light-to-medium, buildable coverage, helping to maintain that fresh-faced look.” Aharon is another fan of this hydrating base, saying a healthy glow is her favorite finish, especially for mature skin, as it tends to lean dry. With the addition of light-reflecting pigments, wearers are left with a luminous, even complexion.

Why it's worth it: Charlotte Tilbury's aptly named Beautiful Skin Foundation (available across 30 shades) was an instant hit among Allure editors. Our testers loved the radiant finish and healthy glow it delivers—without veering into greasy or oily territory, even after a full day of wear. Most said the medium-coverage base seamlessly concealed redness and discoloration without creasing or settling into fine lines, which makes it especially great for mature skin. The formula is packed with hydrating hyaluronic acid (sourced from coconut extract) and cassia angustifolia (a.k.a. senna) seeds, which help plump skin instantly while improving smoothness and brightness over time. It also includes bixa orellana (annatto) seed and damask rosewater, two antioxidant-rich, calming ingredients that make this foundation a perfect match for sensitive skin.

Why it's worth it: Are we really surprised that Dame Pat McGrath gets the votes of two professional makeup artists, Lavonne Wood and Tony Tulve, with her Best of Beauty-winning Sublime Skin Foundation? "The foundation is seamless and looks like a second skin, and it can be worn by the youngest teen to Dame royalty," Wood tells Allure. Tulve adds that the natural-finish formula self-sets (translation: no powder needed) and “boosts natural hydration” thanks to moisture-retaining glycerin. That makes it especially great for oily skin, but if you want to add a light dusting of powder, it won’t look heavy.

What really sets this one apart is the ultra-refining Diamond Core Powder, which diffuses light and blurs imperfections for a silky-smooth, lit-from-within finish. For sheer coverage, pat it in with your fingers and for more fullness, use a brush—it builds beautifully without ever looking heavy.

Though CC creams usually provide sheer-to-medium coverage, this pick has a full-coverage finish that leaves behind a seamless, non-drying base (thanks, hyaluronic acid). For additional skin therapy, it also contains two antioxidants: niacinamide to brighten and vitamin E to boost moisture levels. For a sheerer finish, we suggest trying the IT Cosmetics CC+ Nude Glow, which has a serum-like texture that also provides broad-spectrum SPF 40 protection.

Why it's worth it: The Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder is such a game-changing formula that it won an Allure Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award in 2022 and was used by bicoastal makeup artist ShaDara Holmes to boost Tracy Chapman's already-stunning complexion for her 2024 Grammy performance. This balm-to-powder foundation instantly blurs blemishes and hyperpigmentation while smoothing skin texture for an even finish. It utilizes a mix of magnesium oxide and carbon dioxide to balance oil and blur pores like a powder, yet squalane ensures its finish sits on the fine line between dewy and matte.

After testing it for years, we’ve used this foundation in many different ways. You can use a lighter or darker shade to highlight and contour, wear it underneath another base as a primer, or even treat it like a powder. As the day goes on, the formula adjusts its oil absorption to match your skin’s needs, so it will keep you looking fresh without over-drying.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What to consider when looking for a foundation for mature skin

As you age, your complexion gains texture and leans on the drier side. New York City-based, board-certified dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, previously told Allure that this is because your skin produces less collagen and fewer natural lipids, such as ceramides and fatty acids, which leads to dehydrated skin and a weaker moisture barrier. When it comes to base makeup, "Fine or not-so-fine lines and larger pores can make foundation look mask-like at best and incredibly unflattering at worst," explains Los Angeles-based makeup artist Fiona Stiles. That's why finding a hydrating foundation is paramount for looking fresh. Tulve recommends choosing liquid foundations as they "act more like a second skin." Overall, finding a buildable-coverage formula with skin-plumping, fine-line-minimizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and squalane is the key to a flawless, crease-free base.

How to prep mature skin for foundation

Before you touch your makeup brushes, prepping your skin is essential for creating the smoothest finish possible. "Moisture is key, so always make sure you start with a moisturizer that's hydrating but won't turn greasy and interrupt your foundation texture," Barose previously told Allure. Gucci Westman, the Los Angeles-based makeup artist and founder of Westman Atelier, also emphasized being vigilant about moisturizing your whole face, especially the area around your eyes.

Primer is always an important step before applying makeup of any kind, but not all of them provide the same smoothing effects you'd like. According to Barose, you'll want to ditch mattifying formulas and swap them for formulas with blurring finishes. He also gives balm-like formulations (like Danessa Myrick's Yummy Skin Moisture Repair Balm Serum) kudos for conditioning your skin while locking makeup in place. "You also don't need to wear it all over the face,” he explains. “Focus on lines or [other areas] of your face [you want to] blur.”

How to apply foundation on mature skin

Tulve leans into the "less is more" philosophy when applying foundation to mature skin. Denser, full-coverage formulations may end up accentuating fine lines, so use a buildable formula you can layer to your desired finish for a seamless, second-skin-like result. "I apply foundation on the larger areas of the face first, like the cheeks and forehead, then I go in and tweak around the nose and the chin area," makeup artist Sandy Linter previously told Allure. “Lastly, I'll apply concealer, plus a touch of foundation under the eye area.”

If you apply your makeup with your fingers, you may want to swap your digits for a makeup sponge or foundation brush to ensure even coverage. "[Using your] fingers can look blotchy, uneven, or gloppy, which can make your lines come out more," Barose said. To buff the foundation in, Barose recommends moving the brush in circular motions. “This will help the foundation spread smoothly, even over hard-to-reach areas with lines and wrinkles,” he notes. To ensure a smooth, blotch-free canvas, you can use a damp sponge as a final step to buff and blend.

What type of foundation works best for mature skin?

According to Barose, the best foundations for mature skin offer substantial coverage but aren’t too thick. “I prefer liquids or creams that are somewhat glowy without being too shiny. This will help the skin look radiant and healthy,” he says. On the flip side, he advises those with mature skin to steer clear of matte or opaque foundations. “These can age you by accentuating textures and lines on the face,” he says.

Should mature skin go with a lighter or darker foundation?

In terms of color, “Go with slightly warmer or richer tones,” Barose says. Liquid or cream foundations in particular can be blended down to add a “warm glaze” to the skin without making it look noticeably darker, he says.

    Meet the experts

How we test and review products

Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range that includes consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?

For our review of the best foundations for mature skin, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, and contributors, with a particular focus on our 40-plus reviewers. We also relied heavily on trusted makeup artists to speak to the efficacy of these products on mature skin. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product's performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete review process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine. You may simply be browsing for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from are folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

There was a time when ponytails were considered too casual or juvenile to work for a fancy event. Brides, prom-goers, celebrities on red carpets—an updo had to be a legit updo. But times have changed (thank goodness) and hairstylists have been able to do glamorous things with ponytails that would put chignons to shame. And there's no better proof than how Selena Gomez wore her hair for the Rare Beauty Eau de Parfum launch party.

From the look of the images shared on Gomez's Instagram Stories, the multihyphenate was serving up bridal inspo from head to toe in a gorgeous white halter dress styled by Erin Walsh. But while she could have easily married fiancé Benny Blanco in this look, she wore it to celebrate the launch of her beauty brand's first fragrance, a blend of spicy and gourmand notes. And those sweet vibes carried over into her hair with a super girly pony.

Makeup artist Hung Vanngo shared a close-up Reel of the incredible glam he did on Gomez—a spicy smoky eye, truly glowing skin, and glossy lips in a tawny tone—but it also showed off her hairstyle by Renato Campora. The mid-height ponytail starts with a sleek, middle-parted base with subtly swooped edges. The rest of the hair is pulled back into a thick, smooth, bouncy swath that swoops up so dramatically at the ends that we're waiting with bated breath for Campora to reveal which hot tool and hairspray made this possible.

You can't tell me this ponytail isn't as elegant as any traditional updo. And you also can't tell me this is one of Gomez's most memorable looks to date.

“Ooh, shiny!” is exactly what I said when I saw Jennifer Lopez's latest Instagram post. After briefly admiring her chic leather beret, my focus immediately shifted to her manicure—a set so blindingly glossy, you could probably see your reflection in it.

The mani popped up in a cute set of selfies where the superstar poses in a long-sleeved leotard, patterned tights, and the aforementioned leather beret. She holds her phone with a set of ultra-shiny nails crafted by manicurist Tom Bachik, who has been on hand to sculpt her manis for the entire “Up All Night” summer tour. They're chrome, but they're chrome to the max, with a reflective shine instead of the pearly, frosty glow of a glazed donut manicure and a warm, apricot-pink base versus the popular white or soap nails nude. There simply aren't enough synonyms for shiny to adequately describe how lustrous her nails look! (Her blonde highlights are pretty gorgeous too.)

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Bachik, who nicknamed the manicure “birthday icing” because of its shiny shimmer, applied medium-length, coffin-shaped tips from Après Nail to Lopez's natural nails, then painted them with the brand's Gel Couleur polish in the pale melon orange shade Cantaloopy. For the glowing, gleaming chrome finish, he used his Cosmic Chrome Powder in the holographic, barely pink hue Aurora, then sealed the mani with a clear top coat.

Lopez, a noted Leo, celebrated her birthday at the end of July in another eye-catching manicure, an opulent Gucci-print set in the brand's signature palette of light brown, red, and green and embellished with snakes, gems, and charms. Both manis perfectly align with the top nail art trends for fall 2025, which include mixed metals, dripping chrome, and understated elegance with a twist. If you're already planning your fall nail art, look no further! If anyone knows how to shine bright, it's La Lopez.

Fall is a textural season. Close your eyes and think about it: dry, crunchy leaves strewn all over the sidewalks; plush, cozy sweaters; fuzzy socks we wear to shuffle around the house; the knobby gourds and stringy fake cobwebs we use to decorate our front porches. This fall’s biggest nail trends seem to capture this abundance of texture, says Marnae Orton, nail artist and educator at The Nailsaloon in Washington, DC. “Velvet nails, 3D embellishments, and abstract designs using chrome will have their moment as a fashion accessory,” she says.

Rita Pinto, founder of Vanity Project salons, has a similar prediction across her client base in New York City and Miami: “We’ll continue to see a trend toward a more textured, 3D chrome look with jewel tones and cat-eye gel this fall.”

And speaking of cat-eye nails, magnetic polish will remain a favorite among nail art lovers, says San Diego-based nail artist Alora Reyes. “It’s a design we incorporate into ‘crazier' sets as a pop of something interesting,” she explains, “but I also have clients that are obsessed with it as one color.”

But telling you cat-eye nails are “in” is no news flash, especially if you're someone with a standing salon appointment. What is fresh for fall, though, is taking some of the year’s biggest trends and giving them a sumptuous, autumnal twist. Nail artists are using chrome finishes and builder gel to create bespoke, mixed-metal manicures that flout old-school fashion rules and echo what’s happening in the jewelry space. They’re breaking out the biggest, flashiest crystals for dazzling designs that border on the baroque. They’re using animal prints on the tips of nails and dreaming up aura designs in rich fall shades like mauve, plum, and apricot.

But it’s not all bold bling and flashing metallics. On the other side of the nail art spectrum are a growing number of trends that rely on subtle, neutral tones while still managing to capture that textural element we’re loving this fall. Expect to see tiny, flat-back studs on nude nails, nail art designs done entirely in luxe neutral tones, and sheer textile prints layered over a pale nail that look as delicate and diaphanous as expensive lingerie. When it comes to nail art, there’s so much beauty to choose from; you just have to know where to look.

    Mixed metals

This fall, nail artists are tossing out the old-school fashion rule that says you shouldn’t wear silver and gold at the same time. “Mixed-metal nail art has been my latest obsession,” says nail artist Hang Nguyen. “I used to think they’d clash, but turns out they look amazing together. I mean, why choose one when you can have both?”

Nguyen finishes her mixed-metal designs with a no-wipe topcoat (her favorite is the Kupa Gelfinity Gel Top), which eliminates the step of having to remove the sticky layer that’s typical with traditional gel finishes. This makes a no-wipe gel topcoat an ideal option when using builder gels and gems—both often used in mixed-metal designs—as it keeps you from disturbing those 3D elements underneath.

There’s no right or wrong way to try the mixed-metal trend. “You can keep it minimal or add more 3D designs for a more dramatic look,” says nail artist Bana Jarjour. Both Nguyen and Jarjour use builder gel and chrome powders to create unique and maximalist mixed-metal manicures. Nguyen considers OPI to have some of the best chrome powders for this type of manicure, while Jarjour gives a shout-out to The Gel Bottle Mirror Chrome Studio Gel.

You can stop at using builder gel and chrome powder or you can go even more maximalist by adding appliqués or colored crystals, says Nguyen, who did just that for the look above. “This look feels perfect for fall,” she says. “It gives off a witchy, celestial vibe with the mix of gold and silver, and the deep blue gems feel almost like little galaxies on my nails. Kind of moody, kind of magical, and I’m obsessed.”

    Understated elegance

For those who prefer a more subdued level of sparkle for fall, there’s plenty of inspiration coming from the red carpets, with dozens of celebrities opting for delicate crystals atop sheer, nude polish. Marc Jacobs experimented with the look for the Met Gala, as did Olympian Gabby Thomas (below). Sabrina Carpenter is also a fan. “We always see the return of understated elegance during the fall,” says Jarjour, “so something simple like this is much more wearable for people who want to add a little pizzazz without going overboard.”

For Thomas’s classic look, but “with a little extra zhuzh,” nail artist Maki Sakamoto used Kiss Classy Premium Nails in Stunning. “They were perfect, with their chic crystals and glitter, yet still neutral,” she says.

You can also reach for any natural-toned base color and flat-back crystal studs from Amazon. Says Orton, “Camel and neutral pink tones provide a versatile foundation for any skin tone, making the crystals and gems the star of the manicure.” The design can be done with traditional lacquer or gel, explains Jarjour, who recommends Essie Nail Lacquer in Fairy Tailor (for a traditional lacquer) or The Gel Bottle in Dune (for a gel formula).

    Transparent textiles

Another subtle nail art trend features designs you might expect to find on racks at Wolford or Agent Provocateur (and not your fingertips). Textile-inspired prints such as lace and snakeskin laid over a nude nail created a lingerie-like effect at runway shows like Kim Shui and The Blonds—and manicurists nationwide are already getting requests. Says Reyes, “I've been doing a lighter nude base and using lace nail transfers to achieve a subtle but stunning nail look.”

Reyes likes sweeping on a sheer, pale shade like DND Gel Polish in Team Time #870 before using Daily Charme Transfer Foils. If that sounds like too much effort (we hear you), you can opt for press-ons. Paintlab offers a beautiful beige and white lace press-on set that’s perfect if you like a long, almond nail shape.

    '80s French

Pinto noticed throwbacks to the ’80s (like shoulder pads and crocodile textiles) all over fall runways. “That said, I think a white French manicure is going to be in the narrative,” she adds. And let’s be real, a French manicure never goes out of style; it’s been a go-to design since Jeff Orly created the two-toned look for Hollywood movie sets in 1976. But we’re already seeing celebs like Jenna Ortega and Ariana Grande embrace a bolder, chunkier version that pays homage to long-nail queen Barbra Streisand or Pamela Anderson in Barbarella.

Nail artist Thuy Nguyen used Aprés Gel Couleurs in Maybe and Cloud Nine to achieve Ortega’s “clean, chic, and effortlessly elegant” classic French tips at the Met Gala, but press-ons are an easy, temporary alternative if you want to try the squared-off style for size. Kiss and Glamnetic both have loads of square and squoval options in a variety of lengths and opacities.

    Dripping chrome

Nail artists and nail art lovers are still having fun with chrome powder and 3D gel, and Orton predicts that abstract designs using both elements will have their “moment as a fashion accessory” this fall. The options are endless with this trend—the only possible limitations are your or your manicurist’s imagination.

Our best advice is to search for inspiration on Instagram and TikTok, and not just from nail art accounts but also from jewelry brands, as a lot of the designs we’re seeing reflect trends happening concurrently in the accessory space. Orton likes the juxtaposition of a high-shine silver chrome with a matte-black base (try Mooncat Nail Polish in Emo For Life), but you can use colorful chrome powders and builder gel to create abstract French tips or slapdash metallic blobs on a neutral base.

    Cozy aura

Aura nails are still a top request at salons around the country, and for fall, they’re getting a cozy, autumnal twist. “Everyone is always so blown away by the optical illusion it creates,” says Reyes, who notes you can play with different color combinations to create soft and bold versions of this dreamy design.

For fall, that might mean using mauve as a base color and mixing up a white or light pink polish into the airbrush machine to create a subtle aura effect, explains Reyes, who likes DND Diva Gel Polish in 179 Dusty Mauve Diva. For clients who want a bolder aura look, Reyes loves using Aprés Gel Couleurs in Never Bordeaux You as a base shade. “This color is such a gorgeously rich plum red that works on every client,” she says.

To create the “ultimate cozy fall nail look,” Reyes suggests using a burnt orange (like Aprés Gel Couleurs in Autumn Apricot) in the middle of each nail. For something a little louder, she recommends a teal blue aura (DND DC Duo in Beautiful #126). “Plum and teal blue isn't a color combo most people would think of,” she notes, “but the contrast is so yummy and irresistible to look at.”

Achieving aura nails at home requires having an airbrush machine in addition to an at-home gel kit. If you don’t own any of that equipment, your best bet is to head to the salon, although a few brands like Paintbox and Manisfest have press-ons and nail wraps that are aura-like and come with everything you need to apply them.

    Animal print

Animal prints are still going strong, according to the manicurists and salon owners we spoke to, and show no sign of slowing down since we predicted this would be one of the year’s biggest trends. This fall’s take on the look, however, is scaling things back slightly, with animal prints limited to the tips and top half of nails.

Channeling her inner Fran Drescher in The Nanny, nail artist Miss Pop has been playing with cheetah-print tips (Salon Perfect makes a press-on version of the look if you want to try it at home). At the same time, Orton says, croc-print French manicures have been a popular design at Vanity Projects in New York and Miami.

But our favorite version of this look is an ombré, snakeskin effect created by Jarjour. “This design works best with gel, so I’d use OPI’s Put It in Neutral and a snakeskin nail foil on top using The Gel Bottle Foil Glue,” she explains. “Apply the foil glue gel on the top half of the nail, ombré-style, and cure. Then apply the foil on top of where you placed the glue.”

    Chunky crystals

When it comes to sparkly nails this fall, the bling-ier the better, says Miss Pop. “When I first started my career, I wanted to prove that nail art wasn’t just a bunch of rhinestones,” she says. “And now, over a decade into my career, I can’t get enough of them. I especially love ones that are so big, they shoot rainbows.”

Miss Pop got to indulge her current rhinestone obsession backstage at Alice + Olivia’s fall 2025 show. “This past season was truly an over-the-top extravaganza, so I wanted to make sure the nails earned the extra in extravaganza,” she says of the designs she created.

For the custom nail jewels, Miss Pop sourced elements from around the globe, then designed and crafted each piece using Salon Perfect Heavy Metal Solid Chrome and Magnetic Silver press-ons, adhering the flat-back crystals and pearls with Salon Perfect Gel Adhesive (the brand sponsored the show). “There is nowhere you can buy them….” says Miss Pop. “The hundreds of pieces used in the show were all built in my studio with my team.”

Adding large crystals to your nails can make a big visual impact. Says Orton, “It’s not just a manicure—it’s an accessory, like jewelry.” That being said, the runway look may not be entirely suitable for some people IRL, especially if you have weak nail beds or a proclivity to pick. Taking a page from Miss Pop’s book, we recommend trying the trend with press-ons.

    Nude-on-nude

This nail art trend is striking in its simplicity. On the runways and red carpets, we’re spotting a growing number of nail art designs done entirely in neutrals, and—like many of fall’s nail art trends—there are hundreds of ways to wear it.

At Christian Cowan’s fall 2025 show, nail artist Julie Kandalec created tonal polka dot designs using CND Shellac in Bouquet, Powder My Nose, Bare Chemise, Wrapped in Linen, Field Fox, and Willow Talk—all luxurious nudes. “We didn’t match the nude base exactly to the models’ skin tones because the point wasn’t to create a mannequin-hand effect but rather an elegant, tonal design,” explains Kandalec, who free-painted the oversized dots onto the nail using the brush that comes with the bottle. “Instead, we chose nudes that flattered their undertones.” For example, a model with cool undertones might get a pinky-nude, while one with warm undertones might get something more beige or camel-colored.

For Jordan Roth at the Met Gala, nail artist Elle Gerstein created a manicure that featured faint silver lines over a beige base, mimicking a couturier’s pattern paper. “Skin-toned hues are trending, so it's only natural to make a design entirely out of neutral colors,” says Orton. Whether on the red carpet or in everyday life, “it makes for an effortlessly elegant look that doesn’t overpower an outfit.”

Newsflash: Korean hair-care products and their skin-care counterparts aren’t much different. Packed with powerful ingredients like cica, peptides, niacinamide, salicylic acid, and ceramides, their formulas often look like they could belong in your skin-care lineup. But why are Korean skin-care and hair-care products so similar?

In short, K-beauty prioritizes scalp care just as much as facial care—especially during the colder winter months when dry air and low humidity can wreak havoc on both your skin and scalp. Many view the scalp as an extension of the face, and keeping it hydrated and nourished is essential for maintaining healthy hair and preventing dryness, flakiness, and irritation. In fact, scalp care is “ultimately what will save your hair,” Los Angeles-based hairstylist Cherin Choi tells Allure. Paying attention to your scalp’s needs is key to maintaining overall hair health, particularly in the drying winter months.

“As a beauty writer, I’m constantly testing products, so it’s no surprise my scalp ends up dry, itchy, and prone to buildup. I usually rely on a 2% ketoconazole shampoo from my derm to keep things in check, but I gave the Dr. Groot Scalp Relief Tonic a try and was pleasantly surprised. Heads-up: I first accidentally applied it on dry hair (don’t do that if you want to preserve a blowout as it goes on pretty wet), but when used on towel-dried hair as directed, the menthol delivers a refreshing, cooling sensation. After about 10 days of regular use, my scalp felt noticeably less flaky and irritated.” —Christa Joanna Lee, contributing commerce writer

    Deep Damage Treatment EX

    $27 $24 (11% off)

    Amazon

Why it’s worth it: The Unove Deep Damage Treatment EX is like the K18 of Korea. It has achieved the same level of fanfare as the top-selling spot in the hair-care category at Olive Young, which is Korea’s version of Sephora meets Ulta, to prove it. Deep Damage Treatment Ex even offers the same results as K18’s must-have hair mask. (The only major difference is you can use Unove’s formula in the shower.) It packs a whopping 31 bond-building proteins and amino acids extracted from milk, wheat, corn, and soy, to help mend split ends, reduce frizz, stop breakage, and make hair feel silkier than ever.

Unove is backed by a popular Korean hair-care brand called Dr.ForHair, which is known for doing rigorous research out of its own scalp-care clinic, Cho says. The brand also worked with a perfumer to create the Deep Damage Treatment EX’s gorgeous floral scent with notes of amber and sandalwood.

"Korean skin care and makeup have been staples in my beauty routine for years but hair care is a category I'm eager to familiarize myself more with. Therefore, buying Unove's uber-popular Deep Treatment EX during a recent vacation to Seoul was necessary and justified. The moment it touched my extra-dry, tangled hair in the shower (seriously, I was struggling to rake my fingers through my hair after shampooing), I literally felt my strands glossing over and instantly softening…like magic. I really appreciate that this mask only needs one to three minutes to do its thing—I'm far too impatient to be standing in the shower for a full 10 minutes. My hair always feels reborn after I use this Unove treatment…especially when I've waited a week to wash my hair, and I'm convinced my blow-dryer brush glides through my freshly-washed hair more effortlessly. (Also, for context, I refreshed my pink with a toning shampoo. The mask didn't do that on its own!) —Sarah Han, commerce editor

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is Korean hair care as good as their skin care?

Korean hair care is as advanced and thoughtful as its skin-care counterpart. “La’dor is an example of a brand that feels like skincare for your hair,” says Cho. “I remember trying their snail treatment for the first time and being shocked at how soft and silky my hair felt.” Like Korean skin care, many K-beauty hair brands focus on long-term health, using lightweight, nourishing formulas packed with ingredients like ginseng, mugwort, and fermented extracts. “Anillo’s hair essences are lightweight and nourishing,” says Cho.

Rooted in hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) and backed by serious research, brands like RYO are leading the way. “I was very impressed at the level of hair loss research and Korean traditional ingredients they infused into each product,” Cho notes. “The philosophy behind this prestige hair brand is that they consider scalp care as the foundation of hair care.” In other words, it’s not just about achieving shiny glass-like hair—it’s about healthy hair from the root.

What do Koreans use for hair care?

Koreans take a holistic, skin care-inspired approach to hair care, prioritizing scalp health and gentle, nourishing ingredients. Their routines often include shampoos formulated with traditional herbs like ginseng, green tea, and fermented extracts to support healthy roots and reduce shedding, along with multitasking treatments like lightweight hair essences, masks, and ampoules for added shine and softness. “While many Japanese brands are traditionally well regarded in hair care, even in Korea, I’ve seen more Korean hair care brands like British M rising amongst the ranks in terms of popularity in Korea and beyond,” says Cho.

    Meet the experts

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best body washes for dry skin, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance (or lack thereof), texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists.

Starring a renovated Lindsay Lohan as Anna and an unrenovated but still sturdy Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess, this new story allows not one, but two corporeal exchanges, predictably resulting in more confusion (if not more fun). Maybe due to my advanced age (74)—when I saw the movie this week I seemed to be the oldest person in the theater by around 40 years—I found it difficult to remember which character had been displaced into which body. The Freakier mix-up occurs between the original mother/daughter characters, Tess and Anna, and Anna’s teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and Harper’s soon-to-be stepsister Lily (Sophia Hammons). The two kids, disliking each other with the kind of intensity only teenage girls can inspire, want to prevent their parents’ marriage, and this quartet finds themselves together on the eve (or it could be an entire week) before the wedding. This time, Anna body-swaps with her own daughter and Tess with her soon-to-be step-granddaughter. Are you with me? Good, because even after I saw the movie, I went home confused.

The duplicate mix-up was just one of the reasons I found the story hard to follow. I kept thinking 39-year-old Lohan was one of the teen characters, as her look—long hair, trendy outfits, completely unlined face—conveys enough youthfulness for her to easily be the sister of her daughter. So the idea that after the swap she was supposed to be embodying her daughter (geez, I think, yes, checked it, that’s right) slipped in and out of my understanding.

I had never thought before about how the growing confusion we’re subjected to around celebrities’ ages as a result of facial work might affect our ability to grasp the plot of a movie, or less critically, influence whether the casting makes sense. I found Tess’s unretouched face a comfort in this film: She was clearly one of the mothers, no matter who else was living in her body. But it was cold comfort amidst all this generational disorientation. When Anna’s old teenage crush (Chad Michael Murray) entered the scene, himself now crushing on her 60something mother-who-was-actually-her-soon-to-be-step-daughter, I was thrown into such a state of bafflement I actually got up to stand at the back of the theater for a while, hoping that would give me a clearer perspective (it did not).

Here's a little thought experiment: Say you were watching a movie in which, as a result of some swizzling magic schtick, two people—a mother and daughter—exchanged bodies. The mother, played by Kris Jenner, the daughter, by Kim Kardashian. They take over one another’s lives, each one exasperated and incompetent at her new role. You see how the trope fizzles? (Can’t imagine it? No problem—you can actually see how the trope fizzles by checking out the Freaky spoof that 69-year-old Kris and another 40something daughter, Khloe, posted to Instagram last week.)

The best visual jokes in Freakier Friday involved Tess and Lily’s body swap, especially those showing the vain step-granddaughter’s desperate efforts to rescue herself from (what she perceives as) Tess’s degenerating physical form. “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot!” cries Lily. A scene in a drugstore where she’s evidently applied something to her lips to make them fuller has Tess (as the step-granddaughter) hilariously pleased with her new trout mouth; she resembles a Real Housewife, ridiculous. Lily’s transformation from teen chic to sun-visor-and-glasses-on-a-chain-wearing granny-style is more quietly funny. But the physical difference between Anna and Harper is far less notable, making any visual jokes harder to pull off. In fact, in the opening scene of the movie, where Anna is playing guitar in her room wearing a large set of earphones, I momentarily thought she was the teen, which might’ve been a nod to the original Freaky Friday, but foreshadowed the movie’s identity issues.

Veering off for a moment about Anna’s former crush lusting after Tess: It was played as unbelievable, farcical, that a hot, younger guy would fall for a granny, in spite of her obviously well-groomed, even sexy character (60-something sexiness being manifested by abundant cleavage and self-composure). Which brings me to another confused issue: the film’s bevy of offensive jokes about old people.

I’d be the first to tell you that many of the things old people do can be funny. I just spent 10 minutes looking for my reading glasses, which were on my head (less tragic than when they were actually on my face). But I don’t believe even the most uncurious teenagers think people in their 60s lose all their teeth, wear adult diapers, or carry around a portable potty, as Lily believes. This kind of infantilization of olds is dumb and ageist. The audience I saw the movie with found it funny; I hope they were laughing at the cluelessness of it, rather than at the cliché.

    Okay, veer over.

Back to what it means when every generation starts to look the same—at least on our screens. Freakier left me wondering just how much plastic surgery’s effects will influence what we see in the movies. Already there’s criticism about certain actors not looking like themselves, or suffering—as a result of neurotoxin—limited facial expression. Lohan, always pretty, now looks not only difficult to age-categorize, but perfect enough to be AI generated. In fact, I’m not sure I could swear to you that she wasn’t.

In a recent interview in The Guardian, Curtis herself shared harsh criticism of what she called the “cosmeceutical industrial complex” and what’s it done to many faces. “I believe we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human [appearance],” she said. “There’s a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances. And it is aided and abetted by AI.” Sitting, virtually, across from her interviewer, she continued, “I am not filtered right now. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it’s hard not to go: ‘Oh, well that looks better.’ But what’s better? Better is fake.”

    That’s undeniably true.

And I have another question: How much freakier will it get?

ICYMI: Lips can get sunburns. Swiping on one of the best lip balms with SPF is critical for shielding your pout from harmful UV rays—the menace responsible for drying lips out, speeding up the development of fine lines, and drastically increasing your chances of skin cancer. But regularly applying SPF doesn’t have to feel like a chore; these protective (dare we say cute?) balms are the sunscreen-lippie hybrid you’ll actually want to wear. These hybrid formulas keep the delicate skin on your lips hydrated, plump, nourished, and, most importantly, safe from sun damage—rain or shine, summer or winter (yes, UV rays are still out to play on chilly, overcast days). And thanks to plentiful tinted formulas, you can benefit from the wash of color you adore in all your other tints, balms, and glosses. So, we chatted with board-certified dermatologists on what to look for in your SPF formulas and tapped our editors to round up the best SPF lip balms to help your lips stay cute, comfy, and burn-free.

Why it’s worth it: It’s rare to find a plumping lip product we actually like—sure, they can make lips look fuller, but it usually comes at the cost of stinging, dryness, or both. SunsolveMD’s LipidRestore Volumize + Condition SPF 40, however, had us hooked from the first swipe. It skips the spicy, tingly ingredients and instead uses hydrating powerhouses like its patented Lipiderma Technology (primarily made up of lipids), Zno+ Mineral Repair Complex, squalane, and nourishing oils. The result? Fuller-looking lips with a beautiful nude gloss, plus serious barrier support and SPF 40 protection. It’s definitely the priciest option on this list, but you can feel the hydrating luxury the second you rub this oil between your lips.

Why it's worth it: EltaMD is a dermatologist-beloved brand for a reason: Its formulas are super-duper gentle and hydrating, making them great for sensitive and mature skin alike. Take the slippery, softening UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 36, which is powered by quercetin, vitamin E, vitamin C, and antioxidants that reduce free radicals to reduce visible signs of aging. Also included are glycerin and 7% zinc oxide to create a creamy sun-safe balm that soothes and protects skin for 80 minutes of water-resistant coverage. (It does have a slight white tint to it, but it's not noticeable after a few minutes; our tester didn't mind it.) It also seems to have a cooling, but not tingly feel—so if you've already burned your lips (ouch), it works like a salve to relieve some of that discomfort.

“I was blown away by this product, particularly the wear and pigment payoff! Lip oils can be quite thin (and not super buildable or long-lasting) in my experience, but this new addition to the brand's Weekend Skin line goes on like an oil and deposits color like a tinted lip balm or stick. There's mineral SPF 30 in this, which I love as I don't tend to use chemical sunscreens. And, true to its name, this Moisture Lip Balm doesn't dry my lips out or enhance fine lines; instead, it plumps them up. The only downside? I'm not the biggest fan of the applicator tip—I love that it's flexible, but that makes it tricky to apply when on the go and without a mirror. Luckily, the colors are so blendable and natural-looking, coloring outside the lines is no biggie.” —Shanna Shipin, shopping director

But then I tried the Supergoop Glow Gloss SPF—and it changed my mind about sunscreen-spiked lip products of the past. Frequently Asked Questions

Is it important to wear lip balm with SPF?

Your lips are some of the most delicate and sun-sensitive skin you have, so using a broad-spectrum SPF during the day isn’t optional; it’s essential. Admittedly, lip balms rarely steal the spotlight in your beauty routine, but that’s exactly why upgrading to a sunscreen-packed formula with a hint of flattering color feels like a small but mighty act of self-care.

According to Robert Finney, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, lips are often neglected regarding sun protection. "This is concerning because it has been shown that if you get skin cancer on the lip, it can behave more aggressively than other areas of the body," he explains.

What type of SPF lip balm should I get?

To shop mineral- or chemical-based, that is the question. Like any sun protection product you purchase, finding the right lip sunscreen is based on preference and skin type. If you have sensitive skin, experts recommend an unscented, mineral-based formula to minimize the risk of irritation. ICYMI: Chemical sunscreen uses UV filters that soak into the skin for inside-out protection, while mineral actives sit on the surface of your skin, physically defending against UV rays, explains New York City-based, board-certified dermatologist Hadley King, MD.

Of course, ideally, these lip care products go above and beyond SPF protection. Many formulas are spiked with moisturizing ingredients such as shea butter, vitamin E, and cooling aloe, so you can pick one that will satisfy all of your hydration, plumping, and soothing needs. As for aesthetics, you’ll find a variety of options with hints of tint, glossy shine, and satin finishes. These lip treatments make UV protection look—and feel—good. But, above all else, you need a lip balm with a minimum of SPF 30. Anything lower won’t get the job done.

Even though bobs are still going strong as far as hairstyle trends go, I'm personally in the awkward era of growing out mine. It's currently at that sort of shapeless lob stage that isn't quite shoulder-length—you know what I mean. But Tyla just showed us that the growing-out phase doesn't have to be inconvenient; it can be creative.

The award-winning singer-songwriter changes up her hair all the time, so it's no surprise that she arrived at Variety's Power Of Young Hollywood event in a new bell bob. The side-parted style was tucked behind her ears, swooping out at the chin-length ends, and covering one eye with thick, curved bangs. Absolutely attention-worthy if we left it at just that, right? But Tyla's stylist truly took it to another level.

Although it's not entirely clear how—maybe extensions with wires or an entirely separate hair accessory situated at the nape of her neck—stylist Malcolm Marquez has made it seem as if the ends of two small sections of Tyla's hair have grown out into long twisted pieces that look like branches that have sprouted leaf-like black feathers.

Tyla wears a cropped blue top and a bob that branches out with feathersPhoto: Getty Images

Tyla's makeup artist, Matthew Fishman, definitely deserves a shout-out too, especially for those intense eyes, created with Danessa Myricks colors. I especially appreciate how that golden chrome shadow is a near-perfect match for Tyla's metallic manicure.

OK, so this look is probably not a realistic option for my personal bob-lengthening journey. I reluctantly accept that. But it's gorgeous proof that there really is no shortage of ways to wear a chin-length look.
